Liars, Hypocrites, and Thieves…

There’s no way I’d join them. Bunch of hypocrites, liars and unloving leaders.

They think they’re better than everyone else. Even told people to stop doing ministry because they were with another group. And these so-called “loving” leaders actually threatened violence because a group wouldn’t receive Jesus. Seriously. It happened. So much for the “love” of God in their lives.

They don’t even get along with themselves. Full of nothing but gossip and hate! Talking bad about a couple of the guys who wanted promotion. Fighting over who is the best Christian. Like…who DOES that?

And don’t even get me started about their leadership core group. One of the guys is a thief. Literally stealing money given for ministry. And the group didn’t even prosecute him.

But, as you know, the snake rots from the head down. Their “loving leader” didn’t care when people walked away. At all. Just looked at the core group and asked if they wanted to leave, too.

BTW- here are the Scripture references for this group of hypocrites, liars and gossips. This bullying, ugly group that has the audacity to call itself, “Christ-followers:”

They think they’re better than everyone else. Even told people to stop doing ministry because they were with another group (Mark 9:39). And these so-called “loving” leaders actually threatened violence because a group wouldn’t receive Jesus. Seriously. It happened. So much for the “love” of God in their lives (Luke 9:52-54).

They don’t even get along with themselves. Full of nothing but gossip and hate! Talking bad about a couple of the guys who wanted promotion (Matt. 20:24). Fighting over who is the best Christian (Mark 9:33-34). Like…who DOES that?

And don’t even get me started about their leadership core group. One of the guys is a thief. Literally stealing money given for ministry (John 12:6). And the group didn’t even prosecute him.

But, as you know, the snake rots from the head down. Their “loving leader” didn’t care when people walked away. At all. Just looked at the core group and asked if they wanted to leave, too (John 6:66-67).

Truth is, Jesus did deal head-on with sin. Rebuked James and John. Rebuked the disciples. And it is true that he only ran after one guy (as far as we know) in the whole of his ministry: to warn a man whose body had been healed but whose heart was still spiritually dead (John 5:14). And that, only once. Actually, the early church didn’t do a whole lot of running after, except to warn of sin and try to restore.

The greater point is this: in literally EVERY church, people are at all sorts of different places in their lives. Some are unbelievers. Some are still seeking. Others have convinced themselves that their beliefs and religious rituals and morals, without changed heart, are enough.

Some are immature (regardless of how long they’ve known Jesus). Others are at varying degrees of maturity. All carry with them brokenness and sin and the things they’ve experienced in the past. And none of it is easy. And just as Jesus didn’t excuse sin, the church should speak the truth in love to one another.

But it starts here: “I…urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace…”

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you”- Eph. 4

It is foolishness to think I’m in a position to judge a whole group of people as though I have arrived. As though I’m perfect and my litter box is clean. There ARE toxic churches. Churches that are spiritually abusive. Run from them. But if you’re looking for the perfect one, don’t look to the group Jesus led. Because they were just as jacked as…you. Yes you. Right this minute. And me.
